Understanding Mental Health & Trauma Evaluations

At Burns Virtual Psychological Solutions, our mental health evaluations are comprehensive assessments conducted by our qualified mental health professionals to diagnose and understand various mental health conditions. These evaluations typically involve evaluating a person's emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning to determine if they meet criteria for specific mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and others.
The goal of these evaluations is to provide a thorough understanding of an individual's mental health concerns, guide appropriate treatment and intervention strategies.
An evaluation is not just a step in the process—it's the key that unlocks a world of possibilities. It opens the door to a myriad of interventions, from therapy to behavioral interventions, empowering individuals to understand themselves better and reach their full potential. By seeking an evaluation, parents and caregivers play a crucial role in supporting their child's journey towards growth and fulfillment.
Let Burns Virtual Psychological Solutions be your partner on the path to understanding, healing, and empowerment.

What's Included
BVPS Diagnostic Process
1. Initial Consultation: It all starts with a chat. We'll sit down and get to know you or your loved one better. We'll ask questions about behavior, development, and any concerns you might have.
2. Comprehensive Evaluation: Our evaluations involve a variety of assessment tools and techniques, tailored to the individual's age, developmental stage, and specific concerns.
This typically includes:
Clinical Interviews: We conduct in-depth interviews with the individual and their caregivers to gain insights into their developmental history, current challenges, and strengths.
Observations: We observe the individual to assess social interactions, communication skills, and repetitive behaviors.
Standardized Tests: We administer standardized tests to assess cognitive functioning, language skills, and/or adaptive behavior.
Questionnaires: Caregivers may be asked to complete questionnaires to provide additional information about the individual's behavior and functioning.
3. Collaborative Approach: We believe in a collaborative approach, involving input from caregivers, educators, and other professionals involved in the individual's care. This comprehensive approach ensures that we gather a complete picture of the individual's strengths and challenges.
4. Analysis and Diagnosis: After a given diagnosis, our team of qualified professionals carefully analyzes and compares our findings to the diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5-TR to determine whether the individual meets the criteria for an autism diagnosis. We provide clear and understandable feedback to the individual and their caregivers, along with recommendations for support and intervention.
5. Support and Follow-Up: Our support doesn't end with the evaluation. We provide ongoing support and guidance to help individuals and their families navigate the next steps, whether that involves accessing therapy, educational support, or community resources.
