We accept Aetna, Optum, UHC, and Cigna for California and Texas residents. Additionally, we accept Blue Cross Blue Shield for Texas and Tricare East for eligible residents.
What is PCIT?
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment aimed at improving the quality of the parent-child relationship by reshaping how parents and children interact. It emphasizes strengthening the emotional bond between parents and children while equipping parents with effective strategies to manage challenging behaviors, reduce tantrums, and promote positive communication.

PCIT is designed to be highly interactive, involving real-time coaching where therapists guide parents through various techniques during sessions. This approach fosters a healthier, more nurturing family environment.

PCIT is specifically designed for young children aged 2 to 7 years old who are experiencing behavioral and emotional difficulties. This therapy is beneficial for children with the following diagnoses:

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Autism
  • Other behavioral issues such as aggression, defiance, and tantrums
What Can Parents Gain from PCIT?
Strengthening Parent-Child Relationships
The core of PCIT lies in strengthening the parent-child relationship. By fostering positive interactions, children feel more secure, understood, and loved, which lays the groundwork for better behavior and emotional regulation.
Teaching Effective Parenting Skills
Parents are taught specialized skills to manage their child’s behavior effectively. This includes:
  • Praise and positive reinforcement: Encouraging desired behaviors by acknowledging and rewarding them.
  • Setting consistent boundaries: Establishing clear, consistent rules and consequences to promote understanding and compliance.
  • Improving communication: Enhancing listening and verbal interaction skills to reduce misunderstandings and conflict.
Real-Time Coaching
One unique aspect of PCIT is the use of real-time coaching, as the therapist provides immediate feedback to parents. This hands-on guidance helps parents apply new skills in real-world situations, leading to faster and more sustainable results.
Evidence-Based Results
PCIT is backed by over 30 years of research demonstrating its effectiveness. Studies have shown significant improvements in:
  • Child compliance and behavior: Reduction in disruptive behaviors and increased compliance with parental requests.
  • Parental stress: Decrease in stress levels and improvement in parental confidence and satisfaction.
  • Overall family dynamics: Enhanced family cohesion and reduced conflict.
PCIT via Telehealth
This remote therapy option allows families to receive the same high-quality treatment from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Benefits of Telehealth PCIT (also known as i-PCIT)
  • Convenience: No need to travel, reducing time and stress associated with commuting.
  • Comfort: Sessions are conducted in a familiar environment, which can help children and parents feel more at ease.
  • Flexibility: Scheduling is more adaptable to fit your family’s routine.
  • Accessibility: Makes PCIT available to families who may not have local access to trained therapists.
How Telehealth PCIT Works Telehealth PCIT sessions are conducted using secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms. Parents receive real-time coaching through a wireless earpiece while interacting with their child under the therapist’s guidance. This innovative approach ensures that families receive comprehensive, effective treatment without the need to visit the clinic in person. Additionally, our trained therapists will have the parent complete a pre- and post-assessment so we can track the dyad's progress over time.
