Empowering Families Through Virtual Psychological and Neurodevelopmental Services
At Burns Virtual Psychological Solutions, we believe that an evaluation is more than just a diagnosis; it is a key that unlocks a world of possibilities. We recognize the significance of a thorough evaluation, early diagnosis (when possible), and a personalized treatment plan.
An evaluation opens the door to a number of interventions (e.g., therapy, behavioral interventions, etc.), as well as helps individuals have a better understanding of themselves. An evaluation can provide insight into an individual’s strengths, challenges, and unique traits, empowering children and adults alike to navigate life with confidence and resilience.
For parents and caregivers, seeking an evaluation is a profound act of support.
Allow us to guide you through the diagnostic process with empathy, expertise, and a commitment to unlocking the full potential of every individual we serve.
Why Choose Burns Virtual Psychological Solutions?
BVPS Diagnostic Process
1. Initial Consultation: It all starts with a chat. You will meet via phone with one of our administrative assistants for 15 minutes so we can get to know you or your loved one’s situation better.
2. Comprehensive Evaluation: Our evaluations involve a variety of assessment tools and techniques, tailored to the individual's age, developmental stage, and specific concerns.
This typically includes:
Clinical Interviews: We conduct in-depth interviews with the individual and their caregivers to gain insights into their developmental history, current challenges, and strengths.
Observations: We observe the individual to assess social interactions, communication skills, and repetitive behaviors.
Standardized Tests: We administer standardized tests to assess cognitive functioning, language skills, and/or adaptive behavior.
Questionnaires: Caregivers may be asked to complete questionnaires to provide additional information about the individual's behavior and functioning.
3. Collaborative Approach: We believe in a collaborative approach, involving input from caregivers, educators, and other professionals involved in the individual's care. This comprehensive approach ensures that we gather a complete picture of the individual's strengths and challenges.
4. Analysis and Diagnosis: After a given diagnosis, our team of qualified professionals carefully analyzes and compares our findings to the diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5-TR to determine whether the individual meets the criteria for a diagnosis. We provide clear and understandable feedback to the individual and their caregivers, along with recommendations for support and intervention.
5. Support and Follow-Up: Our support doesn't end with the evaluation. We provide ongoing support and guidance to help individuals and their families navigate the next steps, whether that involves accessing therapy, educational support, or community resources.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the signs and symptoms of autism and ADHD?
Autism and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) present with a range of signs and symptoms. Common signs of autism may include difficulty with social interactions, repetitive behaviors, intense focus on specific interests, sensitivity to sensory stimuli, and challenges with communication. ADHD often manifests as inattention, hyperactivity, impulsiveness, difficulty focusing, and trouble organizing tasks. Recognizing these signs early on can help individuals and their families seek the appropriate evaluation and support.
How do I know if I or my child need an autism or ADHD evaluation?
An evaluation may be needed if you or your child exhibit signs such as developmental delays, difficulties with social interaction, attention issues, or behavioral challenges that affect daily functioning. Struggles in school, work, or relationships can also indicate that a professional evaluation is needed. Early identification is crucial in obtaining support and creating effective treatment plans to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
What does the evaluation process involve?
The evaluation process includes several stages: an initial interview to discuss concerns, observations, and a series of standardized assessments. These assessments help to identify patterns of behavior, cognitive abilities, and developmental milestones. BVPS uses evidence-based tools and takes a comprehensive approach, involving input from parents, teachers, or caregivers as needed to ensure a well-rounded evaluation.
How long does an autism or ADHD evaluation take?
The evaluation process can take between 3 to 6 hours, spread over one or more sessions depending on the individual’s needs. Factors like the complexity of the case and the number of assessments required may extend the timeframe. We work with families to ensure a smooth process and make every effort to keep evaluations efficient while thorough.
Will the evaluation results lead to a diagnosis?
While the evaluation provides detailed insights into strengths, challenges, and behavioral patterns, the final diagnosis of autism or ADHD is made by a qualified healthcare professional. Our team reviews all assessment data, behavioral observations, and input from caregivers before determining whether a diagnosis is appropriate. Recommendations and next steps are discussed thoroughly following the evaluation.
What are the next steps after the evaluation?
After the evaluation, we will schedule a follow-up session to go over the results and discuss the best course of action. This may include treatment recommendations like therapy, educational interventions such as individualized education plans (IEPs), or behavioral support. BVPS will also provide guidance on accessing additional services and resources to ensure that individuals and families are supported in the post-evaluation process.
